The match that will define this generation of boxing fans will finally be contested on Saturday as all eyes will be fixated upon the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

For many years it seemed as if this fight would never come to fruition. But the question on the lips of every boxing fan will be answered this weekend. Who’s better? Floyd Mayweather Jr or Manny Pacquiao?

Let’s run through the tale of the tape.

As it was Manny who wanted the fight more than Mayweather, the latter was able to dictate the terms of the profits. Money Team’s Mayweather will take home the majority, that being 60% compared to Manny’s 40%.

It’s not as if Mayweather needs the extra wealth, the 38-year-old is already worth $170m more than his competitor ($280m) compared to Manny’s worth of $110m. Throughout his boxing career, the undefeated Mayweather has accumulated almost half a billion in match earnings. Coming in at $420m as opposed to Manny’s respectable $335m.

It matters to have a worldwide following in the new age of social media. Manny commands 6.2m Facebook likes, 1.8m Twitter and 1m Instagram followers. The wealthiest athlete on the planet however has 9.4m Facebook likes, 5.8m Twitter followers and 5.3m Instagram followers.

Their career PPV purchases are a staggering 14.2m and 13.6m for Mayweather and Manny respectively. To put into comparison Oscar De La Hoya’s bout with the former drew in 2.5m buys compared to Juan Manuel Marquez’s fight with the latter bringing in 1.4m.

The pair have trash talked for years but words will count for nothing when the two behemoths of boxing stand opposite each other, looking eye to eye. Who will win? We’re about to find out.
